Case Over Gun-Safety Ads Fosters Unlikely Alliance

On Tuesday morning Phoenix was within its rights to remove gun ad from bus shelter ads that say “Guns Save Lives” which the city said constituted political speech. The ads is paid for by the owner of a business offering gun-safety lessons I agree that they should take this off the ads of the buses because more crimes will happen and more citizens will start using guns not just for safety but for dumb reason and will start killing people for no reason. I understand people want to protect there selves but people don't listen to rules these days. They do what they want. Guns don't stop crimes and guns don't kill people. Stupid people with guns kill people. The only way crimes and murders will go down is when people stop doing crimes. Many people feel that having a gun provides greater safety for them and their family. Actually, having a firearm in the home escalates the risk for death or injury, while using it to shoot someone who endangers the household is much less common. Guns affects the risk of death and firearm related domestic violence. Finally the consequences of a gun related violence, death, injury, disability, and dysfunction and have a powerful great impact on
society and health care system. Guns don't save lives, people save lives and by putting those ads on buses little kids will start getting guns and playing with them. They will think its okay to have one when its really not. By having a gun you will do something stupid if you have one.

  1. While I see your point, I have to disagree. It is not necessarily the guns that hurt people, but rather the decisions people chose to make. Owning a gun does not automatically mean you will do something stupid or that your intent is to harm someone else. Also kids cannot legally own guns, you have to be 18 to own a rifle and 21 to own a handgun. Even if guns were banned people would find a way to get them. Drugs are illegal, yet people smoke them. Back during the Prohibition alcohol was illegal, but people owned speakeasies and found ways to drink. You discuss crime rates, but did you know that Britain has a higher crime rate because their police force are not allowed to carry guns. What I'm trying to say is that owning a gun does not make you a bad person nor does it mean you will do something stupid like killing people. It is our constitutional right to own a gun and it should not be taken away. Instead of increasing restrictions on guns, we should enforce the ones currently in place.

  2. I don't believe there is much merit to your opinion that these ads would encourage kids to find guns and play with them. This claim would be nearly impossible to back up and doesn't make much sense. If you want to find parts of society that glorify gun usage a bus ad probably isn't the best place to start. Throughout action movies, tv shows, toys, and more, violence and guns are widely used to create entertainment. These are often aimed at children. I'm not making a case that this is either a good or bad thing, but I do think that if we're talking about influences on children then ads on bus shelters probably aren't the most prominent.
