Investigation: Fair or Foul?

The oversight committee in the House is investigating the problems with the ObamaCare rollout. Mr. Issa, the chairman of the committee, is deemed as political and aggressive because he is demanding that Todd Park, the Obama administration chief technology officer testify under subpoena. The Republicans are highlighting the very low number of people signing up and the loss of thousands, possibly leading to millions of people that will lose their insurance coverage, and the threat of fines for not signing up, as reasons to investigate. Some unproven comments are that the Obama Administration caused the problems because they set up the website so that people had to sign up first before they browsed the website for prices. The insurance coverage under ObamaCare will cost more for many people.

The Democrats and the writers of the article suggest that the Republicans are just being political and trying to cause damage to the health care reform. However, Democrats are joining with the Republicans to delay tax penalties for people who do not have insurance in 2014. Some Democrats fear not getting elected. Sander M. Levin, Democrat of Michigan, said the "This hearing will help Republicans in the November 2014 elections."

It seems worthwhile for an oversight committee to investigate the problems with ObamaCare to me. The government spent millions of our tax dollars to set up a program that does not seem to be working at all. Although they are trying to fix the problems, I do not think that any fines should be charged to people and the required plans that cost people more does not seem fair to me

  1. I think that the committee has the right to look at Obamacare. That is there job and it is part of our checks and balances system. Really nothing is wrong with this action, it is just bad timing because of the whole fiasco that was the shutdown and the fallout from that. Is there a political reasoning behind it, absolutely. However, it is still the right of the oversight committee to do such an action.

  2. I agree with what everything you're saying, and I think that it is ridiculous that this is even a problem. While it may seem as though the Republicans are looking for any excuse to attack Obamacare, you simply cannot ignore their rightful duties just because you assume they do not have proper intentions. It has been clear that there has been a fair share of kinks in the system, therefore, it is completely reasonable for the oversight committee to look in to it. Ultimately, nobody should be penalized in this situation, but it's clear that something needs to be done-- this is why we have an oversight committee.

  3. I must respectfully disagree. Republicans voted for the Affordable Health Care Act, in fact it was a republican idea. But now that Obama implemented this, republicans are putting up a fuss because it will help people therefore people will remember that it was the democrats not the republicans who helped them. Therefore, republicans are worried about losing their job. Moreover, you state that ObamaCare isn't helping people, but in fact it is. Women are able to obtain free or cheap birth control, and now you can stay on your parents health insurance until you're 26. You can't be denied health insurance which many were due to a preexisting condition. Those are just a few of the positive aspects of ObamaCare that have taken place so far.

  4. By over seeing Obama Care and looking into it, is only trying to help the program become more do able and better for citizens.
