Are Political Elections too Dynastic?

A recent blog post from CNN titled "All in the (political) family" brought attention to the many prominent family names on the 2014 ballot. Although this is nothing new to American politics, it cannot be ignored as a possible problem, as it makes grassroots candidates nearly invisible during elections. These candidates have the biggest pockets and the most connections allowing them to secure elections; is that really how Americans want elections to be conducted? In a nation that fought so hard against a Monarchy, the American people are falling victim to the control of very powerful political families that mirror dynasties. There is no hard evidence to support that political families are detrimental to American Politics, in fact the blog post even suggests it might be a good thing, but further investigation should be conducted to see the effects of this dynastic dominance.

  1. If the families are familiar with politics and want the best for the country, then what is wrong with political families? Their whole life is revolved around politics and how it all works so maybe they are good candidates for government.
