This morning, 800,000 government workers woke up jobless. Michael D. Shear of the New York Times has expressed his opinion that Republican officials are being ridiculous, and immature about the matter, and I agree with him.  Officials are too caught up with personal pride, and stubbornness to come to agreement on a budget, consequently affecting millions of govt. workers families across the nation.  I do respect that Pres. Obama has signed legislation stating that uniformed U.S. militia will continue to receive pay during the shutdown.  The shutdown will strongly affect the U.S. tourism industry, with the closing of National monuments such as the Lincoln Memorial, the National Zoo, and National parks across the U.S.  The temporary closing of these national landmarks will hurt the economy of cities and states that rely on tourist traffic, with these workers not receiving reimbursement for lost wages like govt. workers are.

  1. Why is it that congress still gets paid throughout all of this? If a person in any other line of work isn't able to do their job then they don't get paid. But in this case congress can't do their jobs and hundreds of thousands of other people go without pay. Meanwhile members of congress are still happily collecting their fat checks and showing up to work at 2 in the afternoon. It's an embarrassment that 97% of NASA is sitting at home right now without pay while the children in government who are responsible for the entire problem can go on as if life is fine and dandy.
