Maryland puts more strict gun laws into effect.

Beginning today, Maryland has enacted a law that bans assault rifles and high-capacity magazines. It also adds Maryland to the small list of states that require gun purchasers to get fingerprinted and take gun safety classes. Many gun purchasers are outraged and feel as if this new law infringes on their rights as Americans. The 2nd amendment of the Constitution clearly reads "Well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." I personally believe that this law is unconstitutional, however, I can see why the law was put into place. If making a few people mad will help prevent another massacre like the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, then I don't think it matters whether it is constitutional or not, the law should be put into effect. So, at the end of the day, I believe that this law is a good law, but I think if it was nationalized, it would cause too much uproar among the people. I'm glad America is taking baby steps on this issue though.

  1. Reading this article, I too can see why it was implemented in the first place. Also, I would have to agree that it is unconstitutional and overtime may have tweeks put into the law itself as outrage continues. I think the funniest part of the article was all the people coming out to buy the firearms before the October 1st deadline are saying the law is unconstitutional, however if it feels like all the buying of these assault rifles is just for the principal of the matter and not really because the gun owner truly wanted the gun in the first place.

  2. I agree that this new law is unconstitutional. The law is infringing on citizens' rights as stated in the Second Amendment. For now the law is only banning assault rifles and high-capacity magazines but it could keep spreading to more weapons. This law has only increased business for sporting goods businesses. Maryland passed this law as a state. Currently it is only a state law in Maryland and not a national law. I do agree that if it became a national law it would only create a commotion.

  3. You make a valid point, I understand why the people feeo that their rights are being confined, but also there are many ways for people that should not have a gun to be able to, for example gun shows. If an ex felon goes to a gun show they can try out the gun and go through some loop holes to obtain a gun that very day of the Gun show. The laws are to help protect the people of the United States not to confine their rights.

  4. I agree this is unconstitutional because a lot of citizen are dying everyday and you need more protection and are law. its a great law for the state but if it goes nationwide it will be a problem because of lot of people use rifles for games and hunting. Also you would have to do a lot to get and approve a rifle. But if there taking rifles away who's know how many more weapons will they banned. Yes it has it tweaks the government & constitution is making changes that will better us in the future. These laws are to protect us and make a safe places for us people.
